Geok Bee (Jean) Koh, head of Roche Diabetes Care China, pointed out that, “At present, there are still many pain points in blood glucose management for people with diabetes. Introducing innovative solutions at CIIE to help people with diabetes manage blood glucose effectively
The two glucometers exhibited by Roche Diagnostics are both newly launched in 2022 in China, which can measure blood glucose in a user-friendly way, with the measurement accuracy thereof being higher than ISO 15197:2013 standard. In order to make blood glucose monitoring more convenient and intelligent, the two glucometers are also equipped with Bluetooth® wireless technology. Through the bluetooth transmission function, glucometer data can be easily imported into mobile phones, enabling patients to actively monitor the changes in their blood glucose level. Moreover, the two glucometers also have their respective advantages. Specifically, ACCU-CHEK® Instant Glucometer is easy to operate, can be ready for measurement immediately after plugging, and can quickly display the measured value after only 4 seconds; ACCU-CHEK® Guide Me Glucometer has 2 navigation buttons that can greatly simplify the operation procedure, and its ultra-wide blood collection area can make blood collection more convenient.
Roche Diabetes Care showcases new products at CIIE
To make it easier for patients managing blood glucose, Roche Diabetes Care has launched a new digital diabetes management platform “轻糖乐活 (Sugar LOHAS)” on WeChat. Users can not only record blood glucose data, but also receive professional advice and services, such as “365-day assistant” and “28-day training camp” via the mini-program. With the online community and interactions with professionals, Sugar LOHAS aims to provide convenient and accessible diabetes management services, enabling people with diabetes to enjoy a happy life as others.
Exploring personalized diabetes management solutions to benefit both doctors and patients
Healthy China Initiative (2019 - 2030) indicates diabetes as one of the four major chronic diseases. According to the 10th edition of the IDF Diabetes Atlas released by the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) in 2021, the number of diabetes patients in China increased from 90 million to 140 million in the past 10 years, and China ranks first in both the number of diabetes patients and that of undiagnosed diabetes patients, and ranks second in health expenditure on diabetes worldwide.
For numerous people with diabetes, scientific and reasonable control of blood glucose is one of the effective means to delay the progression of diabetes. Professor Feng Bo indicated that, “We face many obstacles in diabetes management from diagnosis to treatment, with poor adherence to therapeutic recommendations being the most prominent pain point. The theme of the World Diabetes Day this year is ‘Access to Diabetes Care’. For the majority of people with diabetes, scientific blood glucose monitoring and healthy lifestyle are equally important for diabetes management.”
To provide patients with personalized solutions, Roche Diabetes Care is working on a digital out-of-hospital diabetes management project with hospitals. Professor Zhong Shao introduced that, “With the digital platform, doctors are able to easily manage their patients, thus enriching the interaction between doctors and patients. Thanks to this project, professional doctors can easily track the blood glucose data of their patients out of hospital, and learn the progress of diabetes and intervene in time. At the same time, patients can also obtain more professional guidance and services from doctors and nutritionists. It actually benefits both doctors and patients.”
Geok Bee (Jean) Koh, head of Roche Diabetes Care China
Jean Koh said that, “Roche Diabetes Care is committed to helping people with diabetes and those at risk to experience true relief. With the four key areas of iPDM -- connectivity, personalised care, collaboration and healthcare sustainability’, we are establishing a patient-centric ecosystem with local partners in China.”
Joining hands with partners in creating a new future for diabetes management.
China is one of the fastest growing and most important markets for Roche. By the purpose of "doing now what patients need next", Roche Diabetes Care has been working closely with medical institutions as well as local partners in the industry to promote the digital and intelligent diabetes management solution in China.
Zhang Bo expressed that, “Roche has long been an important partner of JD Health. In order to strengthen our strategic cooperation, we have worked together to provide consumers with better blood glucose management services since 2021. In the future, both parties will further leverage respective advantageous resources to help more people with diabetes manage their disease in a better and more convenient way.”
In 2020, Roche Diabetes Care signed an agreement with Huawei Health. Two flagship glucometers of Roche, namely ACCU-CHEK® Instant and ACCU-CHEK® Guide Me, have already been connected to Huawei Health. With glucose log services of Roche, users can enjoy customized service. At the next level, Roche digital diabetes management platform will be able to provide patients with more intelligent services based on Huawei Health HealthKit service. Li Changzhu said that, “Huawei Health can provide users with seamless experience, and enables users to record health data outside the hospital more conveniently while ensuring the privacy and security of user data. Abundant out-of-hospital data make it possible for doctors to manage the blood glucose of their patients. Meanwhile, Huawei Health hopes to help people embrace a better life by guiding them to maintain a healthy lifestyle. In the future, there is still sufficient space for cooperation between the two sides in the field of health products and services.”
In the future, Roche will continue to work with all partners to build an open, cooperative, and innovative local health ecosystem, and contribute to the grand blueprint of the Healthy China 2030 initiative. By leveraging the CIIE, Roche Diabetes Care will continue to expand its footprint in China, share its global experience, and bring more innovative products and intelligent solutions for people with diabetes.
